'Turtle Stone'

One of the legend comes from Terengganu again; is the Turtle Stone or batu penyu. Old folks said this stone exist because of a male turtle had sipped water from curse lake or pond in the Rantau Abang, Dungun.

A couple of turtle had lost from Banjaran Sari and met with several sea living creature and the living's already warned them to not going to the forbidden area. This forbid area is a place which is beautiful location with pure sand soil but limits to the fishes. So the couple curious and went to the mystic area. But the female do not want to go there and left behind. There, the male saw beautiful clear crystal water and had sipped from the water. Unfortunately, he felt heavier than usual and cannot move at all. Then he turned into a stone.

The sad news brought by a seagull to the female and with heartbroken heart; she went off and promised herself to come to Rantau Abang to lays egg. This is because she wants to visits her loved and recall the tragedy.

Since that, many turtles comes to this beach to lays eggs and also they would cry to remember their unfortunate ancestors.

This memorial is located at Bukit Che Hawa, Rantau Abang.

Bukit Puteri~~

We already heard many stories from our parents, families and so on. Personally, for me the most weird story in Terengganu that I had heard from my parent is the Bukit Puteri or Princess Hill. It was renamed like that because there was an 'elfin princess' or Puteri Bunian who lived there, she had a lot of gold and silver plates and pots in order to hold kenduri or marriage feasts, normally the villagers like to borrow them. Unfortunately, many never returned her precious pots and some even broke them. Disgusted with their carelessness and greed, the elfin princess left for Bukit Bintang, Besut.

In addition, this hill also has Meriam Beranak or 'Cannon who gave birth'. It is because there is a baby cannon besides a large cannon so the villagers called them as mother and child. Based on the legends, all the cannons on the hill is presented to Raja Siam by Japanese except the Meriam Beranak. The people confused and weird because how come the baby cannon exist beside the large one? So they gave the name as Meriam Beranak.

Furthermore, there are people said that Princess Hill is named after the seven benevolent elfin princesses; the haunted Ulek Mayang melody. Till today, locals maintain upon reaching the top, visitors can inhale the lingering sweat-scent of the seven princesses.

From old folks story, the Genta or Big Bell also has its own story. They said that to produce best melody or sound, the maker need to put special ingredients or 'mystical recipes' in the process. At last, the maker completed the bell with a very melancholic melody. Sometimes, it heard as someone crying in very painful sound.

I never know whether it is true or not because these stories happened ancient times ago. It is up to nowadays people to believe it or not and also, it is myths in my hometown.
